An installation question of laminate flooring

August 2, 2009 – 1:31 am

Someone planed to install laminate flooring in his rooms. But there is a round column in the rooms. The wooden profile can’t cover the transition area between the planks and column. He wonder how to deal with the problem.

Our reply:

It is a special case to cover the transition area between column and laminate flooring. A special copper profile can solve the problem as it is easy to change the shape of copper with the help of coppersmith. Buy some copper end cap. The end cap will be used to cover the transition area. But its position is upside down. Ask a coppersmith to make the end cap match the bottom of column and the neighboring planks. Then fix the end cap on the column and stick the transition area. Do touch the copper end cap in 48 hours. Finally the special profile is made.

You need to use some special tools to solve the problem. The ways is as follows:

1. Insert some plastic or wooden spacers between the wall and planks to protect the laminate floor and wall during the maintenance.

2. Get some special pull bar. Use one end of the pull bar to pull the planks. And then tap the other end of pull bar with a hammer to tighten the locking system.

3. Dismantle part of the planks and then tighten the left planks if the installation area is too big. Then reinstall the dismantled planks.

Wood laminate floor with attached underlay still need pad?

May 1, 2009 – 7:57 pm

Someone plans to install wood laminate floor with attached underlay in his living room. Now he wonders if extra pad is needed to resist the moisture from the subfloor.

There are total 4 layers of wood laminate floor. The bottom layer is moisture resistance layer. The pad directly put on the subfloor is used to reinforce the performance of moisture resistance. There is usually a type of film which main material is PE, EPE or EVA on the surface of pad which plays a key role for the damp resistant purpose. If the attached underlay is with the film, then extra pad is not necessary. If not, extra pad is still needed for heavy damp place. The thickness of the pad should not exceed 2mm.

Walk on wood laminate floor with metal crunch?

April 25, 2009 – 3:03 am

Someone has to walk with the help of 1 pair of metal crunch. He likes wood laminate floor to be installed on his room. He is concerned if the metal crunch will break the floor.

The bottom of the metal crunch should be covered with some special plastic pad or the bottom of the crunch is very obtuse. The metal crunch will not break the floor in this case. The floor will be broken if there is a sharp end at the bottom of the metal crunch. Though wood laminate floor is strong abrasion resistant, the floor will be broken if its surface is often heavily pressed with the sharp end of metal things.

Wood laminate floor on access floor?

April 19, 2009 – 7:56 pm

Someone has installed access floor in his office. But he like wood laminate floor(L). He wonders if L can be installed on A.

In fact, wood laminate floor(L) can be installed on access floor(A) if the following pointes are noted:

1. The height of L should be the best digit as it is not easy to adjust the height any more after the install of L.

2. The total surface of access floor should be dry and flat.

3. If ventilation is required for A, the ventilation panel should be the high as L for the purpose of safe and convenient walk. And the special cut and trim work should be done on wood laminate floor to offer the space for the ventilation panel.

4. Make outlet on L for wire from access floor if necessary. Note the location of wire tank first. The special cut and trim work also should be done on L here.

Install laminate flooring on a lean surface?

April 14, 2009 – 2:09 am

Someone plans to install some floor covering material on a lean subfloor. And he wonders if laminate flooring is a good selection and how to do the installation work.

Laminate flooring(L) is of a “floating” type. Unlike hardwood flooring, there is no nail used to fix L during the installation. In fact, the whole area of L is like a big tile put on the subfloor free. The laminate flooring can be installed with the follow way:

1. The installation area should be less than exceed 4*6m.

2. Make the lean surface straight and dry.

3. The lean must be less than 30 degree if the height installation area is over 2 lengths of the planks.

4. Set up a straight row of firm holder such as cement to support the laminate flooring at the bottom of the lean space. Use copper accessory to cover the transition space between laminate flooring and the holder..

5. Make the long side of the planks be upward if the height of installation area over 2 widths of the planks.

A right way to disassemble wood laminate floor?

April 8, 2009 – 6:34 am

There is a big area of wood laminate floor installed in someone’s room. Now he wants to disassemble it and install the planks in another room. He found that the planks are more quickly to be disassembled if he pulls the long side of one plank upward. And he wonders if it is a right way to disassemble the planks.

In fact his way is wrong. The plank he pulls is connected with other plans with locking system at both long side and short side. Part of the locking system will be destroyed with the way. And the plank will be bent and even broken with the way. So the planks can’t be installed again. In fact the people can begin to take the wood laminate floor out from the short side at the end installation area. Or he can have several people to disassemble the planks at the long side at the time. These are 2 right ways to disassemble the planks.

Pressed V groove laminate flooring

April 2, 2009 – 5:34 am

“V” shape groove will appear on the edge of 2 pieces of connected pressed V groove laminate flooring. The “V” shape is pressed one time with special machine. And the process of cut and paint at the edge is not necessary. So the problems of warp and brown space at the edge have been solved with the technology. The shape makes this type of laminate flooring(L) offers a hardwood like appearance. And the V groove space is strong abrasion resistant, and strong moist resistant with technology. With the technology, the formaldehyde release is also lower than painted V groove laminate flooring. The technology has improved its useful life and offered better look. There are 2 types of pressed V groove L: 12mm pressed L and 8mm pressed L.

Set up stairs on the current laminate flooring?

March 27, 2009 – 5:24 pm

Someone plans to set up stairs in the ready room. He doesn’t want to disassemble all the laminate flooring which is installed on floor. Instead he prefer a part of the laminate flooring(L) to be broken to do the work. And he wonders what work should be done for laminate flooring(L).

Instead the work can be done in the following ways:

1. Draw the shape of stairs base. Expand the shape with 8mm at each edge for expansion purpose of L.

2. Locate the space of L to broken and draw the shape of cut space on the floor.

3. Use the electric saw which work thickness can be controlled precisely. Set the work thickness a little less than that of the L. For example, set the work thickness as 8.0mm if the thickness of the L is 8.3mm. There are several reasons for the work way: 1)The blade of the electric saw will damage the subfloor or the blade will be damage by the subfloor if the blade works on the subfloor. 2) It is finish the work on the cut planks if the planks have been cut in this way.

4. Get rid of the planks with a knife if it still hasn’t been cut off.

5. Cover the laminate flooring in the work area for the stairs with pad to avoid the damage during the building of stairs.

6. Cover the transition area between the L and the built stairs with wallboard or quarter round to offer a beautiful look.

Laminate flooring?

March 21, 2009 – 12:33 am

There is some type of raised floor with a surface which is like laminate flooring. The surface is with various wooden textures such as walnut, beech, cherry, oak, teak, etc. Its size is 500*500 or 600*600mm. Its edges are usually packed with black plastic strips. Some people doubt if it is that laminate flooring(L) installed on raised floor. Actually it is PVC cover that is fit on the panel of raised floor. It is not necessary to pack the edge of L with black plastic strips. The PVC can be of various designs including wooden textures. It offers a beautiful look for raised floor. It is not as strong resistant as the surface of L. And its foot feel is not as good as L because it is much harder than the surface of L.
